Interview with Wayven Pienaar, Author of “A Crisis of Faith and Religious Confinement”

Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Wayven Pienaar, author of “A Crisis of Faith and Religious Confinement.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.

When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?

Ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil, pen, crayon or any writing tool in my hand, I was never without one. Kids in school thought I was a right weirdo, walking around with a pen all day. LOL And they often found me sitting on my grandmother’s roof, writing stories about everyone and everything. In high school I was chosen as a reporter for my school newspaper which further inspired me to study Journalism at university. My path was clear from day one.

What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?

Ah… maintaining the tone of the book, because I often stop and start and then I need to get myself back into each of the characters and maintain their style but also maintain the tone of the book. It can be challenging. The best part about writing is that I often laugh at the characters I create. I find it pleasurable to dive into their lives and experiences.

Tell us about your latest release.

My latest book is going to make its way into the public arena soon. It’s a romantic comedy-drama called, Love, Interrupted. But more about that later. The book I’m promoting right now, is A Crisis of Faith & Religious Confinement. It’s a book that is very close to my heart because of my own struggles with religion and finding God. There are some biting comments in there about Christians, the Church and religious leaders. I hope that through this book I can help others navigate their way through spiritual life and finding God, because I believe there is no greater experience for any human being than to find God.

How did you come up with the title of your book?

The title of the book depicts precisely how I felt when I wrote it. I have often found myself in a faith crisis but being religious wasn’t helping me at all.

What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?

The book answers many questions that people struggle with and I thought that instead of waiting for answers from a pastor, why not learn from the experience and struggles of others, such as myself.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I get excited by books by Carl Hiaasen, Nick Hornby, George Orwell, J.D Salinger, Myles Munroe and many others.

Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?

There are so many avenues for writers to get published these days. The key is to build the right audience, a good marketing strategy, and just keep writing… for love of it.
