Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Sophie Servaes, author of “Tempest Force of Will.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.
Watch the interview below:
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?
I started writing fan fiction at a young age and then stopped, and then I rediscovered writing in 2021. I started writing again just for me, but then I realized other people might like my stories, so I set my sights on getting published.
What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?
My favorite part of writing is just letting the characters speak for themselves. As long as you keep the characters acting like themselves, the story practically writes itself. I don’t like the writers block that comes sometimes. It takes me a while to get out of a funk like that.
Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is my first book!! It’s taken me a long time to get to this stage. I sat on the manuscript for over a year before being able to publish just because I wasn’t sure on how the best way to publish it was. I initially wrote this trilogy as one story, but then I realized it was too long to release as one book, so I split it into thirds.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
Force of Will is the name of a card in Magic the Gathering, and I wanted the whole series to be the Force of Will series, but the title Force of Will relates to the last book more so than the first. So I decided to just combine the name Tempest, which is the code name for an important character in the book, with the Force of Will title.
What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?
This story deals with some heavy subjects like the mental health and the loss of free will. I hope people read my story and realize that they’re not alone out there and that things get better.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love Sarah J Maas and Steven King.
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
Amazon KDP is free!! The first time I tried to use Amazon kdp I clicked on a fake website and they tried to tell me that it was like 700 dollars to publish but that’s not true. If they ask you to pay money for publishing, it’s not the real Amazon kdp.
