Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Kendra Clark, author of “Motherpuppin Adorable: What to Do When Your Dog Is Better Than Everyone Else’s.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?
I have always loved to write and draw on personal experiences. It just so happened that with dogs there were so many experiences to draw off of that became the focus of stories I would often tell.
What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?
My favorite aspect of writing is how it causes me to reflect and dig deep for stories I would otherwise have left buried and the creativity it takes to bring those out so that others will enjoy them. It reminds me of having a child and as they move through life and experience things it often causes you to recall memories that you had not thought of in a long time. My son recently was trying to train our new Great Pyrenees rescue how to stand up. I had to laugh at all of the dogs we had and the crazy stuff we attempted to have them learn when we were kids.
Tell us about your latest release.
Motherpuppin’ Adorable: what to do when your dog is better than everyone else’s is a tongue-in-cheek guide will help you debut your dog’s irresistible instincts of adorable and create a loyal fanbase that will adore your dog as much as you do. I noticed that so much the available books about dogs were either cartoons or very serious. There was nothing that really celebrated our relationship with dogs in a fun light way.
We talk about dating with dogs, incorporating your dog in your wedding, buying a car with a dog in mind and how to become instafamous and what happens when you do. Dogs are fun, dogs make us smile and we hope we can help with both of those a little more.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
I often think of one of my favorite quotes from W.R. Purche that we put in our book that says everyone thinks they have the best dog and none of them are wrong. We all cannot help adoring our dogs with unfettered adoration and our title speaks to that.
What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?
Simply put. Have fun with your dog. We all know life is better with a dog, why not read about it.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love so many authors it is tough to pick. David Sedaris usually has me crying in a good way, I also love Malcolm Gladwell and Chelsea Handlers early books were quite funny.
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
Just get started. I always say I got pregnant with my book. I had it swirling in my head before I had any intention of writing but I knew it was there and just started getting up at 4:00 am every morning to get it on paper. If you think you have something set aside time and get it out.
