Book Review: Carrying Water and Carrying Loss: Tony Stevens’ The Water Girls

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)Venice has been written about endlessly, but The Water Girls finds something rare in its canals. Instead of gondoliers and nobles, Tony Stevens turns his attention to the women who carried the city’s water, and in doing so, he gives voice to a world on the edge of disappearance. The story follows Lina, a…

Book Review: Brendon James Delivers Heart, Conflict, and High Stakes in Foes of Hope

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)From the first chapter, Brendon James pulls readers into a world filled with magic, danger, and deep personal struggle. Foes of Hope, the opening novel in the Adamas Chronicles, wastes no time setting emotional stakes that hit hard. Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Charles R. Hinckley, author of “Dream State: The Sleeping Detective Series, Book 1.” We are excited to share this insightful interview today with our readers.

When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?

I started writing at a young age, I’d say around age 13, I wrote my first short story.

What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?

I love delving into characters, creating a rhythm and feel for their speech and intellect. I find weaving plots challenging, because I generally try to have a main plot and a sub-plot somehow come together by the end of the book.

Tell us about your latest release.

Dream State, is the first on a planned series about August Chase, a psychic detective, who has precognitive dreams and seeks out those he dreams of to save them from their fate. He gets involved in a mystery, trying to find a killer and unravels a strange plot and the reason she was killed.

How did you come up with the title of your book?

Dream State is what August Chase calls it when he goes into a precognitive state. It can be while wide awake, or when he’s actually dreaming.

What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?

A fun ride, with enjoyable characters and a bit of atmosphere.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I enjoyed many authors, recently I’ve read John Hart, Stephen King, Dennis LeHane, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?

Write as much as you can. Start with short stories. Join an online critique group and hone your skills. Concentrate on a good story. For me, the writing should flow from telling the story and the writer should not be visible in the telling.
