Book Review: Carrying Water and Carrying Loss: Tony Stevens’ The Water Girls

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)Venice has been written about endlessly, but The Water Girls finds something rare in its canals. Instead of gondoliers and nobles, Tony Stevens turns his attention to the women who carried the city’s water, and in doing so, he gives voice to a world on the edge of disappearance. The story follows Lina, a…

Book Review: Brendon James Delivers Heart, Conflict, and High Stakes in Foes of Hope

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)From the first chapter, Brendon James pulls readers into a world filled with magic, danger, and deep personal struggle. Foes of Hope, the opening novel in the Adamas Chronicles, wastes no time setting emotional stakes that hit hard. The story begins with Pistis Arete wrestling with the pain of killing her closest friend, a…

Indie Book News and Reviews was able to catch up with Dan Trumpis, Author of Gwen Gladstone for an interview. We are excited to share this interesting interview today with our readers.

Dan, please tell us about your latest novel.

Dan Trumpis,
 Author of “Gwen Gladstone”

DT: My latest novel is Gwen Gladstone: A Tale from the Town of Harmony. It’s about a thirteen year old girl named Gwen Gladstone. Her mother has died in the prologue, her dad remarries a year later, and they move to her new step-mother Victoria’s home in Harmony. Once she arrives, Gwen soon discovers Victoria has some serious secrets and so do several more of the town’s citizens.

Where did the idea come from to write this novel?

DT:  I’ve always been a big fan of supernatural stories. My last novel focused on werewolves, this one is about witches and witchcraft, and in two subsequent novels I want to focus on vampires then ghosts.

Please give us an insight into your main character. Why is she such an important part of the story?

DT: Gwen is a troubled girl. After her mother’s death, she becomes darker, is withdrawn from her friends, and in a lot of pain, which has manifested itself as a “demon” that constantly plagues her. Things get worse when she arrives in Harmony, but Gwen is able to persevere and makes a vital discovery about herself that allows her to heal, grow stronger, and finally beat her “demon.”

Where does the story take place and why did you choose this setting for the novel?

DT:  Harmony is a small town in Northern California. it’s where my first novel took place and where the other novels I plan to write will take place, too.

What was the hardest thing about writing this novel?

DT:  I actually started writing  this novel the previous year, not long after finishing Welcome to Harmony. I worked on it until I hit a wall. I then put it down and turned my focus to getting Welcome to Harmony ready for publishing. When I returned to it later with a fresh set of eyes, I was able to get back on track and finish it.

Is this book part of a series? If so, tell us a little about the series.  If not, would you consider creating a series from this novel and what are your thoughts on writing a series?

DT:  It’s part of a series that will take place in the town of Harmony, which is home to a number of supernatural characters. Each novel will focus on a different protagonist, but characters from the other novels will appear throughout.

If this book were made into a movie which actors and actresses would you like to see playing the lead characters.

DT:  The only actress I can see playing Gwen would be Chloe Grace Moretz, but that would mean making Gwen about sixteen or seventeen instead.
