Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Caroline Bakker, Author of “The Healing Journey: Navigating Adult ADHD and PMDD.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.

When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?

I’ve always used writing as a way to process my emotions, especially during the more intense seasons of life. But it wasn’t until I faced the depths of PMDD and was later diagnosed with ADHD as a mom that I truly realized how healing—and powerful—writing could be. Journaling became my lifeline. One day, I looked back at my entries and saw not just pain, but patterns, breakthroughs, and wisdom that I knew could help others. That’s when the idea of becoming a published author truly sparked. I wanted to transform my lived experiences into something that could empower and uplift other women on similar journeys.

What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?

My favorite part of writing is how it feels like a soul-to-soul conversation. When I write, I connect with my past self, my future self, and with every woman out there who’s ever felt misunderstood, overwhelmed, or burned out. It’s deeply therapeutic and freeing.

The most challenging aspect is definitely navigating the mental clutter—especially with ADHD. Some days, my ideas come in like a flood, and it’s hard to know where to begin or how to stay on track. But I’ve learned to embrace the ebb and flow, using voice notes, nature walks, and rituals to ground my process.

Tell us about your latest release.

My latest book is titled Thriving Naturally with PMDD: A Holistic Guide to Reclaiming Your Power, Balancing Your Hormones, and Healing from Within. It’s a deeply personal and research-backed guide for women navigating the emotional and physical rollercoaster of PMDD and ADHD. I share tools, rituals, nutrition insights, and real-life stories to help women feel seen, supported, and empowered to heal—not just survive. It’s part memoir, part handbook, and part gentle revolution for women ready to take back their power.

How did you come up with the title of your book?

The title came from a deep desire to shift the narrative. So many women are told to just “cope” or “manage” their symptoms. I wanted my book to be a bold reminder that thriving is possible—and that healing doesn’t always require medication. “Thriving Naturally” reflects the heart of my philosophy: honoring the body, reconnecting with the cycles of nature, and supporting our unique biochemistry with compassion and intentionality. Every word in the title holds a vibration of empowerment, resilience, and self-love.

What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?

I hope readers walk away feeling seen, validated, and equipped. This book isn’t just about symptoms—it’s about reclaiming your life, your rhythm, and your joy. I want every woman who reads it to feel like she’s not alone, and that there is a path to wholeness that honors her sensitivity and strength. If even one woman feels less shame and more hope after reading it, I’ll know I’ve done my job.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I’ve always been drawn to authors who blend soul, depth, and personal transformation. Lucinda Riley’s storytelling is absolutely captivating—her ability to weave past and present with such emotional richness inspires me deeply. Paulo Coelho’s work, especially The Alchemist, has been like a spiritual compass at different points in my life, reminding me to trust the journey.

I also love diving into powerful self-help and psychology books—think Lewis Howes, Gabor Maté, Ryan Holiday, and Daniel Amen. Their insights have shaped how I understand healing, identity, and performance, both in my personal life and in the work I do. I admire people like Sabri Suby and Charles Fay as well—each in their own way teaching about influence, resilience, emotional intelligence, and impact.

Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?

Yes—start with your why, not with perfection. Writing your truth matters more than getting it right the first time. Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment or manuscript. Begin messy, begin real, and write as if you’re speaking to someone who desperately needs to hear what you have to say.

Also, don’t be afraid to invest in your craft—whether it’s an editor, a mentor, or a publishing coach. And most importantly, stay connected to your voice. There’s no one else who can tell your story like you can. Publishing is not just about being seen—it’s about serving others through your unique perspective and lived experience.
