Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Demeka Vines, Author of “Healing The Hurt of Yesterday: Embracing Freedom For Tomorrow.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today. Watch the interview below:
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?
I discovered my love for writing as a child. Writing and reading were always two of my favorite subjects in school. I never truly realized back then that I would evolve from a little girl carrying books around to a young woman writing her own book and sharing an inspiring story with people around the world. However, after the tragic loss of my sister to suicide, I knew I wanted to share my story to help others who might be going through similar struggles.
What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?
My favorite aspect of writing is the ability to express my emotions and connect with others on a deep level. Writing allows me to release what I’ve been carrying inside, and it feels incredibly cathartic. The most challenging part, though, is being vulnerable. Telling my story, especially the painful parts, is never easy, but it’s essential to be honest in order to make a real impact on my readers.
Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is Healing the Hurt of Yesterday, a memoir and autobiography. It shares the painful trauma, abuse, and tragedy I’ve faced throughout my life and my journey to restoration. This book reflects how I began to understand who I truly am and how I found healing, strength, and purpose through it all.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
The title Healing the Hurt of Yesterday came from the pain and trauma I’ve endured over the years. It’s about the process of healing, which allowed me to overcome the challenges and tragedies I’ve faced. The journey of restoration helped me reconnect with my true self and move forward with hope and purpose.
What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?
I hope my readers understand that healing is an essential part of life, especially for those who have experienced abuse or trauma. Healing is not just about recovering from pain; it’s about stepping into your purpose, maximizing your potential, and becoming the person you were always meant to be. I also want to inspire others to share their own stories because, in doing so, they might bring healing and wholeness to someone else.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
John Eckhardt, Jennifer LeClaire, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and Ryan LeStrange have made significant impacts in the spiritual and personal development genres. Their books are full of wisdom, encouragement, spiritual and practical insight, which is something a lot of readers seek.
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
Go for it! Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment; if you have a story to tell, the world is ready to hear it. Write from the heart, be persistent, and embrace the editing process—your voice matters, and your story deserves to be shared.
