Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Jasper Owens, Author of “Trojumanna Saga.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?
My journey into writing began with a profound love for stories and an insatiable appetite for reading. This passion naturally evolved into a desire to craft my own narratives. However, it was my deep dive into the study of ancient and medieval civilizations, their languages, and their myths that truly ignited my ambition to become a published author. I realized that there were countless misconceptions and historical inaccuracies that needed addressing, and I felt a responsibility to present these tales with authenticity and respect.
What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?
The aspect I cherish most about writing is the ability to immerse myself in the myths and legends of old, breathing life into characters and events that have long been shrouded in the mists of time. It’s incredibly fulfilling to connect the dots between ancient cultures and modern readers. The most challenging part, however, is maintaining historical accuracy while crafting a narrative that is not only engaging but also true to its source material. Balancing scholarly rigor with compelling storytelling is a demanding yet rewarding endeavor.
Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is an ambitious 4-volume chronicle of human history, meticulously detailing the journey of humanity from its earliest days to the present. This work represents years of dedicated research and writing. In addition, I have recently made a few refinements to my most acclaimed work, the first English translation of Trojumanna Saga. This translation brings a unique Norse perspective to the legendary events of the Trojan War, offering readers a fresh and captivating view of this ancient tale.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
For Trojumanna Saga, I chose to retain its original Old Norse title. This decision was driven by a desire to honor the work’s roots and maintain its cultural authenticity. The title itself is a testament to the saga’s rich heritage, connecting modern readers with the ancient traditions from which it sprang.
What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?
Through Trojumanna Saga, I hope readers will gain a deeper understanding of the northern peoples and their rich cultural tapestry. I aim to show the connections between the Aesir and the Trojans, especially the figure of Aeneas, and offer a fresh perspective.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
J.R.R. Tolkein and Alexandre Dumas in our time, but I will always hold the likes of Virgil, Homer, Hesiod, and Snorri Sturlasson in the highest regard.
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
For aspiring writers, my foremost advice is to be relentless in your pursuit of knowledge and truth. Immerse yourself deeply in your subject matter; thorough research is the backbone of compelling writing. Understand the histories, cultures, and nuances of your topics intimately. Additionally, cultivate patience and resilience. The path to publication can be long and fraught with challenges, but persistence is key. Always be open to feedback and willing to refine your work; the editorial process is invaluable. Finally, remain true to your voice and vision. Write with passion and authenticity, and let your unique perspective shine through. The literary world is vast, and there is always room for fresh voices that bring new insights and stories to the table.
