Digital Book Nook recently caught up with Dr. Brandon Ramakko, author of “Pain is not a Life Sentence.” We are excited to share this insightful interview with our readers today.

Watch the interview on YouTube:

When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to become a published author?

After completing more and more post-doctoral training and after being able to really get to the bottom of many people chronic pain I realized I wouldn’t be able to help everyone, one-at-a-time. I have to find another way to get some of this information out there. So I needed to write a book (a total of 3 books planned).

What is your favorite and the most challenging aspect of writing?

The motivation to keep at it without getting distracted is such a challenge. I actually quit my job to focus more on writing and I’m honestly getting about the same amount of writing done as when I was doing it between patient visits.

Tell us about your latest release.

“Pain is not a Life Sentence” is not a quick fix book. It is an educational book. While you won’t know more about surgery than your surgeon, I hope after this book you’ll know more about your options than your surgeon does (sadly). People go to few health professionals and progress stalls and they give up… but has everything been tried? Is the diagnosis correct? Could it be overlapping issues?

How did you come up with the title of your book?

When finally solving someone’s pain they would often say something along the lines of, “I thought I would have that pain the rest of my life.” So, I heard something like that often and that phrase morphed into the current title.

What do you hope readers are able to get from reading your story?

With the crappy system you have to be self informed and be an advocate for yourself. I hope they understand more about their pain and are able to find ways of reducing pain or even eliminating pain.

Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?

I liked Google Docs for most of the writing so I could work on it everywhere on multiple computers and share it easily for feedback. Warning though, it doesn’t play well with Atticus if you want to switch later. I used MS Word for final formatting.
