Digital Book Nook recently caught up with author Justin Cook for an interview. We’re excited to share this insightful conversation with you today!
When did you first discover that you enjoy writing and wanted to be an published author?
Writing was never something I wanted to do. I have no classical training and no primal desire to spill my views on paper. Yet something changed. I found a voice in me that was able to give people hope, that was able to capture something that is unseen and at times unspoken, and most importantly shines light into dark corners. Now that I’m a number one Amazon Best Selling Author, I feel extremely grateful that people took time to hear a story needed to be shared.
What is your favorite and most challenging aspect of writing?
I’ve said before I’m either a good writer with bad ideas, or a bad writers with good ideas, and some days it’s both. Writing isn’t about technique. It’s about bleeding on the paper, it’s about that pounding feeling it your chest when the paragraphs just fit.
Tell us about your book.

Infectious Injustice is my first novel, and just hit the Amazon Best Sellers List at #1 in Law, as well as being listed as a #1 Hot New Release. If you have ever heard of this thing called Covid-19, and if you want to really know what’s going on behind closed doors in the “system” in the United States of America, read this book.
How did you come up with the title to your book?
I was sitting on the bunk in San Quentin when I came up with the title.
What do you hope readers are able to get from your story?
I hope that readers are able to grasp the chaos that happens in the minds of people of those who are incarcerated. Now some deserve to be there, yet some are thrown in the grips of the system unjustly, and I want to show the process of corruption, manipulation and fear that is used to break these people into less-than-people. I hope that the readers witness, as I did, the brutality within the American criminal justice system, and how it’s only getting worse. I hope they realized that we must do something, now, before it’s too late.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Oh my. I would say I love King, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, T. S. Eliot, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, and Kerouac, to just name a few.
Do you have any advice for writers looking to get published?
Don’t take no for an answer. If you believe you have something of value, find a way to express it. Also, edit your edits, then edits the edits of your edits. I spent years editing my book, all alone in coffee shops, and it paid off in the end.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Justin Cook was born in Nevada. He’s a technical architect who has worked at the most prestigious companies and holds over fifty technical certifications, including top-tier status among the technical community worldwide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature, a master’s in information systems, and is pursuing a PhD in information systems. He also taught at a college in Nevada and was a faculty member in the information technology department. He is a marathon runner who has also stupidly run with the bulls in Pamplona, twice. He speaks four languages, which he developed while living abroad in Spain, France, and Germany. He has traveled to over thirty countries, which translates to he doesn’t know how to save money. He enjoys teaching Kenpo, where he holds a black belt, playing piano, snowboarding, and hiking. He is much better at being divorced than he was at being married. He is a father of rambunctious kids who enjoy reminding him that he is no longer cool and is gaining weight. He now lives in a house free of bars that is made for naps, reading books, and drinking too much coffee. Most days, you will find him lounging in his Kirkland sweats from Costco, writing, where he transports readers to a place where bold heroes have endearing flaws, as he broadly addresses the human experience. The swashbuckling action-adventure Infectious Injustice is his first novel.
