Book Review: Carrying Water and Carrying Loss: Tony Stevens’ The Water Girls

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)Venice has been written about endlessly, but The Water Girls finds something rare in its canals. Instead of gondoliers and nobles, Tony Stevens turns his attention to the women who carried the city’s water, and in doing so, he gives voice to a world on the edge of disappearance. The story follows Lina, a…

Book Review: Brendon James Delivers Heart, Conflict, and High Stakes in Foes of Hope

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)From the first chapter, Brendon James pulls readers into a world filled with magic, danger, and deep personal struggle. Foes of Hope, the opening novel in the Adamas Chronicles, wastes no time setting emotional stakes that hit hard. The story begins with Pistis Arete wrestling with the pain of killing her closest friend, a…

Reading and Writing Addiction was able to catch up with Catherine Sharp, Author of Viking’s Desire for an interview. We are excited to share this interesting interview today with our readers.

RAWA: Tell us about your latest novel.
CS: My latest novel, Viking’s Desire is of course based on Viking’s raiding England for treasure.  Eriik, the

Catherine Sharp, Author of Viking’s Desire

Viking Jarl is infatuated with the English Lord’s daughter, Lillian, and in order for the Lord’s manor not to be leveled, Lillian must accompany Eriik back to his homeland.  Little by little, Eriik is patient with Lillian and they finally fall in love.  Lillian’s former betrothed, Lord Montfort, a petulant and evil lord who Lillian never wanted to marry in the first place kidnaps Lillian and takes her back to England.  Eriik thinks Lillian has left on her own accord because she doesn’t love him but when he finds out the truth, he sails to England, rescues her and they live happily ever after.

RAWA: Where did the idea come from to write Viking’s Desire?
CS: I’ve always been fascinated with Viking’s and of course the legend of the big, muscled warrior just screams out to be a hero in a romance novel.

RAWA: Give us an insight into your main character. Why is he/she such an important part of the story?
CS: Eriik is who drives the story.  He decided to sail west from the Norse lands to raid the English coastal regions for treasure and because of his infatuation with Lillian, insisted on what he wanted, which was her of course, and would not take no for an answer.
Lillian, growing up as a Lord’s daughter with every privilege, sheltered, shows remarkable courage in deciding to go away with Eriik to stop any bloodshed for her countrymen.

RAWA: Where does the story take place and why did you choose this setting for the novel?
CS: The story takes place in England and the Norse lands because the Viking’s, as it is well known, sailed west for treasure to England, and in the Norse land where the Viking’s lived.

RAWA: What was the hardest thing about writing Viking’s Desire?
CS: The only difficult part about writing this novel was researching Norse names and getting the spelling correct.

RAWA: Is Viking’s Desire part of a series? If so, tell us a little about the series.  If not, would you consider creating a series from this novel and what are your thoughts on writing a series?
CS: This book is not a series and it will not be a series.

RAWA: If Viking’s Desire were made into a movie which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character (s).
CS: If this novel were a movie, Chris Hemsworth would have to be Eriik and Angelina Jolie would be Lillian.
