Book Review: Carrying Water and Carrying Loss: Tony Stevens’ The Water Girls

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)Venice has been written about endlessly, but The Water Girls finds something rare in its canals. Instead of gondoliers and nobles, Tony Stevens turns his attention to the women who carried the city’s water, and in doing so, he gives voice to a world on the edge of disappearance. The story follows Lina, a…

Book Review: Brendon James Delivers Heart, Conflict, and High Stakes in Foes of Hope

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5 Stars)From the first chapter, Brendon James pulls readers into a world filled with magic, danger, and deep personal struggle. Foes of Hope, the opening novel in the Adamas Chronicles, wastes no time setting emotional stakes that hit hard. The story begins with Pistis Arete wrestling with the pain of killing her closest friend, a…

Reading and Writing Addiction was able to catch up with Teri Riggs, Author of Resolutions for an interview.  We are excited to share this interesting interview today with our readers.

RAWA: Tell us about your latest novel.

Teri Riggs, Author of Resolutions

TR: Resolutions is a romantic suspense, second chance story about a strong-willed DEA agent, Eve, and Mac, her ex-lover who is pure alpha male. Strong-willed and alpha do not mix! They must learn to work together in order to take down a drug lord turned terrorist while dealing with their past history and renewed desires. Mac wants to protect Eve. Eve wants to prove she doesn’t need his protection. They must learn to trust each other in order to stay alive.

RAWA: Where did the idea come from to write this novel ?

TR: I don’t really remember. I read a lot of romantic suspense and love anything with alpha males. I like strong female protagonists who can keep up with any man. I’m sure the plot evolved from what I prefer to read.

RAWA: Give us an insight into your main character. Why is he/she such an important part of the story?

TR: Mac has a tragic family background which drives his need to protect. His overbearing demands drives the only woman he’ll ever love away. Eve comes from a very overprotective upbringing which fuels her desire for independence. She’s had her fill of alpha men and when Mac gives her an ultimatum, she walks away.

RAWA: Where does the story take place and why did you choose this setting for the novel?

TR: The story takes place deep in the jungles of Colombia. The antagonist is mainly a drug lord who turns terrorist. My research indicated some of the largest drug suppliers come from Colombia. There are a few scenes in D.C. where the Resolutions and DEA headquarters are located.

RAWA: What was the hardest thing about writing this novel?

TR: Probably learning how to write a few sentences in Spanish and doing the research. I knew nothing about alphabet agencies, weapons, or helicopters. Some days I’d spend hours researching only to use the information for a scene or two—or even worse, taking the lines out in edits. It was eye-opening to learn how dangerous DEA and other agency operative’s jobs really are. I have a whole new respect for the agents after reading about the drug trade.

RAWA: Is this book part of a series? If so, tell us a little about the series.  If not, would you consider creating a series from this novel and what are your thoughts on writing a series?

TR: I’m hoping it is a series. I’ve got the second book outlined and ideas written for a few other characters from Resolutions. I like the idea of writing a series. I have a tendency to get attached to all my characters and would love to see where they go. I’m finding readers especially like Mac’s partner, Cade. He definitely needs his own story!

RAWA: If this book were made into a movie which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character (s).

TR: My Dream Cast…
Mac would be played by Hawaii Five-O’s, Alex O’Loughlin. If he wasn’t available I wouldn’t be opposed to Phillip Winchester stepping in.  Sarah Shahi from Person of Interest, would make the perfect Eve. No back-up plan for her character.  Cade would be Sullivan Stapleton, who plays Phillip Winchester’s partner on Strike Back.  The evil Mendoza would have to be played by Benjamin Bratt.
